Consultant - University Business Consulting (UBC)

About the Department: University Business Consulting (UBC) is a management consulting practice located in the Division of Business Services. UBC was created to assist Mason schools, business units, and leadership in identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for bold innovation, planned and structured growth, and increased effectiveness and efficiency, all in pursuit of the University's overarching strategic goals.

Reporting to the Consulting Director for UBC, the Consultant supports projects and programs (or sub-projects/programs) that directly support the goals of George Mason University and the UBC Office. Projects will include, but may not be limited to, business and strategic planning, business process redesign and implementation, policy redesign, implementing new initiatives, and/or conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis on business functions at the University. Projects may also include support to academic schools across campus. The Consultant will be responsible for leading and designing parts or phases of the projects.

Responsibilities: * Performs core consulting-style functions. This is expected to include, but not be limited to, gathering data, as well as developing thoughtful, detail-oriented, and high-quality qualitative and quantitative analyses. Includes creating written documents, flow charts, presentations, and/or spreadsheets. * Assists UBC Managers, Directors, and leadership with work, as needed. Conducts benchmarking research, both internal and external. Provides written and verbal updates to UBC leadership. Performs related responsibilities as required. * Develops near-final deliverables for UBC working groups, steering committees, and other key stakeholders across campus, as necessary. * May supervise more junior UBC staff on project work, as appropriate and available. * Represents UBC projects and the UBC office within the GMU community. Interfaces with GMU schools and business units regarding UBC initiatives. * Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers and effectively handles conflict situations. Maintains and communicates enthusiasm, commitment and energy.

Required Qualifications: * An undergraduate degree and significant experience (four to seven years preferred) in management consulting, strategic business solutions, business process improvement design and implementation, project management, or related experience. * Experience working at a consulting firm or on consulting projects is required. * Advanced problem solving and analytical (qualitative and quantitative) skills are required. * Experience working with clients is required.

Preferred Qualifications: * A master's degree is preferred, such as MBA, MPA, or other professional degree with a focus on business analytics or process improvement.
