Senior Director of Advising

George Mason University's Provost invites applications for the position of Senior Director for Advising, reporting to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education. About the Position: George Mason University has recently reorganized our student success activities through a "student experience redesign." Our goal is to increase student persistence, graduation, and satisfaction through student-centered processes, technology, and support services. Undergraduate Education is increasing support for student success through a hybrid coaching and advising model in collaboration with University Life and academic units. Together, we have created a Mason Care Network of coach/advisors to support students new to the university. In addition, we are also strengthening major advising across all schools and colleges.

Undergraduate Education is seeking a collaborative leader who will develop a vision for supporting consistent, high-quality holistic coaching and advising across units; and manage a team of pre-professional advisors. The ideal candidate will help Mason develop data-driven and technology-rich tools to better support our diverse students. The Senior Director will serve on a leadership team in Undergraduate Education to integrate advising with our other undergraduate programs, policies, and initiatives.

We provide leadership for the university community by: * Creating transformational educational programs and initiatives; * Building campus and community partnerships; * Supporting student academic success; * Facilitating Mason Impact activities; * Providing education and support for learning outcomes assessment.

Responsibilities: * Coordinating advisor training across all units at Mason, in collaboration with the Mason Academic Advisor Network; * Convening and leading the Academic Advising Liaisons Council; * Partnering with the Mason Care Network to collaboratively support first-year coaching and advising; * Leading student success initiatives in collaboration with academic units and University Life; * Supporting coaching and advising development for Mason Online students; * Communicating with students and advisors, including leading development of a remodeled Academic Advising website as a hub of information; * Developing "themes" support for coaching and advising; * Managing provost-level academic actions and appeals and advising the Associate Provost on appropriate responses; * Leading the student success team in Undergraduate Education, which consists of; ** Academic Advising Coordinator ** Health Professions Advisor * Coordinating pre-professional planning (pre-law, pre-health); * Assisting in developing, refining, and implementing a new shared coaching and advising technology tool; * Working collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning; Admissions; Registrar; Academic Units; and University Life to create and share data-informed metrics about student success; * Serving on the Academic Policy Management Committee; * Working with Undergraduate Education, OSCAR, Civic Engagement, and Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation to promote student participation in high-impact activities through Mason Impact; * Serving on the Undergraduate Education Leadership Team; * Serving as an advisory member on the Undergraduate Council and Mason Core committees.

Required Qualifications: * Terminal degree in any discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * A minimum of five years of experience with academic advising or academic affairs; * Demonstrated leadership and management experience.

Preferred Qualifications: * College-level teaching experience; * Doctorate in higher education, student development, or related field; * Demonstrated experience coordinating campus-wide initiatives.
