Director, Global Affairs Program

George Mason University's Global Affairs Program invites applicants already employed and tenured by George Mason University for the position of Director. The department is a vibrant and diverse interdisciplinary program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences with more than 600 undergraduate students and more than 60 Master's degree students. The Director will serve a four-year term. The appointment is potentially renewable and carries a 1-1 teaching load. Required Qualifications: * Previous administrative experience (such as undergraduate or graduate director experience); * Proven leadership abilities; * Record of success in scholarship as well as teaching; * Record of success in and commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavors; * Experience in undergraduate and graduate-level teaching of courses that contribute to the Global Affairs curriculum; * Development, alumni relations, and/or grant experience.

The Director will be expected to consult and work closely with stakeholders throughout the University who collaborate in academic and co-curricular activities with the Global Affairs Program. These include, but are not limited to, the academic units currently offering coursework for Global Affairs students (especially S-CAR, Schar, COS, and Mason Korea) and high impact experiences e.g., (the Global Education office, Oscar, the Office of Career Services, etc).

The ideal candidate will also be expected to: * Work with faculty to ensure that GLOA programs reflect intellectual and scholarly progress in the field of globalization studies; * Supervise, lead, and mentor administrative and advising staff, as well as a core program faculty made up of tenured/tenure-track (5) and term faculty (3) whose home unit is Global Affairs; * Collaborate with other units with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as in other colleges and schools at Mason to advance the interdisciplinary study of globalization; * Work with faculty to set short- and long-term strategies and meet goals around enrollment, curriculum, programming, and recruitment and retention of students, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; * Demonstrate commitment to best practices in higher education scholarship, teaching, leadership and advocacy and to creating/sustaining a highly professional and harassment-free work environment for staff, as well as faculty and students; * Demonstrate an openness to innovation as well as a commitment to transparency.

Start date for this position is flexible, beginning as early as January 2020, but no later than August 25, 2020.
