Open Rank Term Faculty Position MS Program in Data Analytics, Volgenau School of Engineering

The George Mason University Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE) offers a unique opportunity to teach in our MS Data Analytics Engineering (DAEN) Program as a Term Assistant Professor. The DAEN Program is multidisciplinary and composed of courses from VSE departments and other schools/colleges within George Mason University. Applicants with considerable experience in higher education or industry may be considered for a higher rank appointment. Term faculty have promotion potential to the Associate and Full Professor ranks, but are non-tenure-track appointments.

George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

Responsibilities: Term faculty have a four-course teaching load per semester and are expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the Department and Program. Reduction in teaching load is possible for research-active faculty. There is opportunity to teach in the summer for additional salary. Other administrative responsibilities include coordinating the concentrations of the MS program, and coordinating the online teaching of the core DAEN course offered in the Volgenau School of Engineering.

Required Qualifications: Applicants for Term Assistant Professor must have received a PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or Operations Research, or other closely related fields, by the start date of the position. Other acceptable related degree fields include Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Health Care Analytics, or Quantitative Business Analytics with a strong background in Statistics and Computer Science. Applicants who have received a MS in one of the above fields by the start date of the position will be hired at the rank of Instructor.

Applicants should possess experience and enthusiasm for teaching statistics, data analysis, and programming, including analysis of massive data sets, and have experience in using technology in the classroom, including relevant data analytics, cloud computing, and statistical software packages. All applicants should possess a strong commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with online, asynchronous delivery of classes.

About the Department and Program: The DAEN program currently has approximately 481 active students and offers a MS degree and certificate, with courses offered at both the Fairfax and Arlington campuses of George Mason University. In January 2019, DAEN initiated its online program. The DAEN program is housed in the Volgenau School of Engineering, which includes program concentrations in data analytics coordinated with the Departments of Computer Science, Systems Engineering and Operations Research, Information Science and Technology, Statistics, and Electrical Engineering.

Further information about the DAEN program can be found at https://volgenau.gmu.edu/data-analytics-engineering.
