As part of the Office of Provost, which supports all academic endeavors across the university's 10 schools and colleges, the Office of Graduate Education (OGE) enhances support for graduate students by expanding the opportunities for advanced learning in disciplinary/interdisciplinary areas and research/professional development. OGE leverages resources across the university to empower the next generation of leaders and innovators within and beyond academia and industry.

About the Department: The Office of Graduate Education supports the vision of a graduate community of scholars whose members are ever more intellectually and socially engaged, valued, interactive, and rapidly connected to resources and information. We aim to create an environment where graduate students are drive and conduct of some of the most transformative research in the world. OGE will be responsible for making resources available that foster ingenuity in research, rigor in academics and ultimate success in programs of study, creative and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Purpose of the Position: The Associate Provost for Graduate Education will forge strong connections between Mason's increasingly multidisciplinary graduate education programs while: (1) promoting high-impact research and scholarship activities; (2) strengthening our commitment to independent researcher development through postdoctoral training; and (3) creating synergy with our dynamic undergraduate programs. Reporting to the provost and working collaboratively with the vice president for research, innovation and economic impact, the associate provost for undergraduate education, and the deans, the associate provost for graduate education will facilitate the creation and success of programmatic innovative, cultivate strong and often multidisciplinary graduate education programs across the university; support strategic education and research initiatives; and develop and oversee a comprehensive postdoctoral fellow research training program. The Associate Provost for Graduate Education is expected to represent the university and its graduate education, research and postdoctoral training programs to external organizations at state, national, and international levels.

Responsibilities: The Associate Provost for Graduate Education will work collaboratively with colleagues in Mason's departments, divisions, colleges and schools to: * Support the development and implementation of contemporary graduate education and training programs within and across Mason's colleges and schools; * Ensure that Mason supports an increasingly diverse graduate student and postdoctoral fellow community; * Support building a diverse faculty base who can mentor graduate level students * Promote synergy between Mason's world-class undergraduate and graduate education programs; * Develop partnerships with other institutions and organizations to create high value graduate education and postdoctoral training programs; * Create new opportunities to connect graduate education and postdoctoral training programs with the university's multidisciplinary research institutes and centers consistent with our strategic plan and priorities; * Implement systematic approaches to assess and strengthen graduate education and postdoctoral training programs and their impact on Mason's dynamic and growing academic enterprise; * Establish and enhance academic policies promoting strong and integrated graduate education, postdoctoral training and research activities; and * Collaborate with unit-based graduate offices on issues related to student support and academic policies.

The Associate Provost for Graduate Education will also: * Supervise the day-to-day activities and needs of the Graduate Education staff, * Allocate and oversee graduate financial support through student funding programs, graduate health insurance and student travel; * Share with the collegiate deans the responsibilities to review and monitor graduate programs and track recruitment and retention of a diverse and strong pool of graduate students; * Advance the university's efforts to standardize data collection, analysis and reporting on the graduate student experience, working in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness; * Work collaboratively with the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning and University Life to create development programs and graduate student engagement in campus life; and * Oversee graduate student funding programs, including the Presidential Scholars program and the Provost's PhD Program Award program.

Required Qualifications: * Earned doctorate from an accredited university; * Demonstrated understanding of research and publication environments; * At least five years of experience teaching in a graduate program; * Experience managing a team; demonstrated leadership ability, including an ability to work effectively with university administrators, faculty, and students; * Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; * Enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to superior graduate education.

Preferred Qualifications: * Academic administrative and supervisory experience; * Experience with inter-institutional relationships is helpful.
