Description

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to protect the public, our staff, and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnership and providing opportunities for offender change.
 
Please note changes have been made to this exam to include the standards required for the Department's compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003. You must complete both exams attached to this announcement to be considered for this position.
 
Clinicians with the Idaho Department of Correction work inside correctional institutions/prisons and Probation & Parole District Offices around the state. These positions perform assessments, program assignments, and treatment referrals for offenders convicted of a felony.   This announcement will be used for the Idaho Correctional Institution Orofino, in Orofino Idaho.

If you have previously applied for Clinician at IDOC or any other agency and are interested in the current opening then you must re-apply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used.  Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

Note: The incumbent must have a Master's Degree in social work, psychology, psychosocial rehabilitation counseling, marriage and family counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related field and possess licensure as a Licensed Masters Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor within 90 days from the date of hire.

Example of Duties

  • Perform mental health assessment of offenders and determine the need for additional services and referral to psychiatric and treatment services, including Substance Use Co-occurring disorders
  • Perform assessment of offenders who verbalize or demonstrate suicidal behavior
  • Participate in treatment planning and delivery of individual and group counseling
  • Complete psychological reports for the Commission on Pardons and Parole; the Sex Offender Board; and various Courts
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Conduct psychometric testing in the assessment of inmates

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree (or higher) in a direct clinical practice Human Services field is required for this position. (Master's degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation counseling, psychiatric nursing, or very closely related field of study.)

Supplemental Information

SPECIALTY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a current Idaho license as a Licensed Masters Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, or be license eligible within 90 days from the date of hire
  • Must be willing to work in a correctional facility and may include working non-traditional hours during evenings and/or weekends
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in the screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment of adults with substance abuse or co-occurring disorders
  • Experience developing and implementing treatment plans
  • Some knowledge and/or experience in assessing criminogenic risk and risk associated with substance abuse relapse
  • Current, or eligibility to obtain, clinical membership in the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA)
  • Experience treating, assessing or supervising sex offenders

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing 
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints 
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior 
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
