To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to qualify for the Data Center / Telecom Technician I opportunity, you will have:
  • 1+ years of technical experience in a data center / telecom environment (e.g., call center, help desk or Network Operations Center). We may consider slightly less experience depending on education and directly relevant experience 
  • Understanding of telecom structured cabling standards 
  • Understanding of network device deployment
  • Experience using industry-standard test equipment
  • Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work in a time-sensitive, dynamic environment and to adjust to priority changes
In addition, top candidates will have SEVERAL of the following:
  • CompTIA A+ / Net + certification is highly preferred 
  • General knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory
  • Understanding of Building Management System (BMS) and Branch Circuit Monitoring System (BCMS)
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Leadership and team experience
  • Knowledge of Telcordia installation standards
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Explorer) and or/equivalents
Physical demands will include the ability to:
  • Lift and handle up to 50 pounds
  • Bend, stoop and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of network devices, materials, or equipment
  • Work under a raised data center floor
  • Climb ladders (up to 16 feet) to reach plenum spaces
We're looking for technicians with the flexibility to cover other shifts as needed for vacations, on-call responsibilities, etc. Flexibility is key. ​You will train on the first shift from 9 AM to 5 PM for approximately a month, then continue your training on the 2nd shift.

You will join the Data Center Services (DCS) team providing remote hands services at designated Digital Realty locations. As a Technician on the DCS Team in Ashburn, you will be responsible for installing and troubleshooting circuits and other equipment, tracking service requests from receipt to resolution, answering external and internal inquiries, and assisting with work and projects. 

Internally, you may work with the Deployment and Implementation teams, the Global Command Center, Provisioning team and Project Management to ensure relevant installations meet delivery dates and create a positive customer experience. As Technician I, you will primarily be responsible for responding to customer requests within the Service Level Agreement time frame. You will also assist other members of the Operations team ensuring 100% uptime to all customers. More specifically, you will perform remote hands services that are tracked through the Digital Realty ticketing system. This includes, but is not limited to the following services:

  • Equipment rack and stack
  • Cable, terminate and dress fiber or copper network cabling
  • Assist customers with the diagnosis of hardware and software issues on their equipment Quick question for you - click here
  • Power cycling of customer equipment
  • Perform cabinet/cage audits
  • Blade/Card, memory, hard drive, and transceiver installations or removal
  • Test and troubleshoot of copper and fiber optic circuits
  • Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices
  • Shipping and receiving of packages
  • Receive, install, and test customer and internal cross-connects of copper and fiber optic interconnections
  • Use of power and hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, drills, wire strippers, punch down tools, etc.)
  • Provide timely customer and internal updates using a computer-based ticketing system
  • Perform and document inventory verification/counts
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist to maintain overall Data Center cleanliness and appearance
  • Work flexible shift schedules
  • Report to the facility within a 1-hour average for emergency assistance as needed
